Common Moroccan phrases to know if you're visiting


    Morocco is a friendly country to visit for travelers as most of its inhabitants can speak multiple languages from French to English and other Germanic and Italic languages however if you would like to learn some common Moroccan phrases to impress them or just to increase your personal vocabulary then this is a good place to start.



Assalamu Alaikum : "May peace be upon you" this is the official greeting that all Moroccans use when they talk to each other. "Salam" which means "peace" is also used as a shortened version.

Merhaba : you'll be hearing this phrase a lot as it means "welcome" and can also be used to say "hello".

Wesh Labas? : it literally means "are you okay?" but it's used more as a way to ask "how are you?"

Mezyan : it means "good"

Aah : is how Moroccans say "yes"

Laa : is a polite way to say "no"

Chokran : "Thank you" is a one word used to express gratitude.

Afak : is how to say "please"

Smah-Li : a general way to say "pardon" or "forgive me"

Yallah : meaning "Let's go" as a way to suggest to someone to follow you or to hurry up.

Feen? : used to ask "where" for example " feen the restaurant? " or " feen train? "

Bech hal? : means "how much" and is only used to ask for the price of things.
